Just beneath the surface
I have a life that’s filled with hope
Though all you can see right now
Is someone struggling to cope
My days may seem to only hold
Long hours of dread and fear
But I’m determined to be free
And that time is nearly here.

Just beneath the surface
I am a person full of life
Though my eyes may lack a sparkle
I am shining deep inside
I'm finding a way to break out
Of this prison I am in
At last I will be myself
I will start to live again

Just beneath the surface
I am daring and brave
Although I cower in the dark
I find courage to face each day
With every blow that I endure
Inwardly I stand and fight
I will not quit, I’ll carry on
And I know I will survive

Just beneath the surface
Is someone I used to be
Now I’ve become that person
The one and only Real Me
I found the strength to finally leave
Now each day I gladly face
Choices are mine to make
Freedom I now embrace.
